Cleanliness/Staph/Flu
Smithfield Middle School and BISD is being very proactive to minimize the effects of staph infection and the flu. Every other Wednesday, athletes are required to take everything (clothing and pads) out of their athletic lockers to take home. We need your help! Please wash all laundry and Lysol all equipment. In addition to the usual cleaning, our custodial staff will sanitize the inside and out of each locker when these lockers are emptied on Wednesdays.

Thanks to all the volunteers that donated items and chaperoned our activity night. We had 400 students that attended and enjoyed themselves. Smithfield Middle School is very lucky to have students, parents and teachers that are so involved.

President Barack Obama has announced he will do a special address to public school children on Tuesday, Sept. 8. That day will be a regularly scheduled instruction day in Birdville ISD, thus the speech will not be shown live. However, the district will make the speech available as an instructional resource to be used in Social Studies and other classes when it is appropriate to the curriculum. It will also be available for your viewing on the BISD website. If a teacher at Smithfield Middle School uses the speech as an instructional resource when it fits in the curriculum, you will be notified in advance. If you chose for your child not to view the speech, he/she will work in the library on an alternate assignment in order for them to learn the same instructional concept as the children in the classroom.
Meet the Teacher a Little Different This Year
Tonight’s Meet the Teacher night will be a bit different. Today during student’s RRRR they will copy their schedule so you will know the teachers you need to visit. If your child fails to bring their schedule home, you may look on Family Access for their teachers and we will provide maps this evening. There will be no bell schedule. This will be an informal meet and greet. Meet the Teacher will last from 6:00-7:00. Teachers will be have copies of classroom information and specifics of their course.
At 7:00 our first PTA Association will start. All teachers will be introduced during the meeting.

Last Friday, fundraiser information was sent out through R to the Fourth Power. Please visit with your child about this information and take the time to peruse the items. The fundraiser will end on Wednesday, September 9th. Students will report to R to the Fourth Power at 8:00am to turn in their orders and money collected. For every three items ordered, your family’s name will be entered into a drawing for a stay a Wyndham Resort.
Money raised from the fundraiser will go back to our students. We received a grant from our PTA last year to refurbish our school black top. The fundraiser will support that endeavor.
7th and 8th Grade Meet the Teacher Night
7th and 8th Grade Meet the Teacher Night will take place this Thursday, September 3rd.
Due to the large number of seventh and eighth graders, we ask that parents come without their student. Students will provide a map and schedule for parents when they get home from school on Thursday. From 6:00-7:00pm, parents will meet their child’s teachers. Following this there will be a PTA association meeting and teachers will be introduced.
